Description
Culture, as defined in the cultural policy, is “the totality of a way of life evolved by a people in their attempts to meet the challenges of living in their environment, which gives order and meeting to their social, political, economic, aesthetic and religious norms andmodes of organisation thus distinguishing a people from their neighbours”. Culture involves more than dance, music, charms and incantations; it comprisesmaterial and non-material dimensions; it blends practical accomplishments, inspiring philosophies, oral traditions and abilities in man’s continues effort for development. The Federal Government, in pursuance of its programme of national mobilisation, self-reliance, re-orientation, integration and economic recovery through the use of culture and its components, launched the national policy.
