dc.descriptionAfrican studies have in recent years received tremendous impetus in the major centers of learning the world over, and hardly a month passes by without some new contributions to the already vast literature of this field. To the Africanist as well as the Librarian, this development poses a serious problem of bibliographical control which is not receiving the full attention it deserves. The dearth of bibliographies in the field of African history and culture has complicated in no small measure the problems of research and has been a source of frustration to Africana Librarians. This is particularly so in libraries and research centers in Africa most of which are neither adequately stocked, especially as regards the older materials, nor have their staff access to the catalogues of the more adequately stocked centers in Europe and America, except in a few cases where such catalogues have been published.
