| dc.description | This book presents simplified background on Algebra and Trigonometry, covering the requirements of the first year course in the Public Health Sciences and Allied Medical Sciences in Colleges of Health Technology. The text is designed to meet the requirement of similar programmes for Science and Engineering in Universities, Colleges of Education and Polytechnics. We have attempted to present a simplified course on Algebraic processes of basic mathematics, necessary for a Diploma or Degree course with the aim of solving the transition difficulties for students from senior secondary school to higher institutions, with the combination of careful explanation of worked examples and an ample supply of exercises. The book contains ten chapters, sequenced in a logical order. The first chapter deals with Indices and Logarithms, whose relationship was explicitly presented. The chapter two covers Set Theory, with elaborate illustrations and examples. Chapter three introduces Surds operations. Equations aided with graphs and numerous worked examples is contained in chapter four. The chapter five presents permutations, combinations and inomial theorem. Chapter six covers Sequence and Series of real numbers. Chapter seven presents a first course on basic facts of Trigonometry. Chapter eight presents fundamentals of vector algebra. The two last chapters dealt with Partial Fractions and Polynomials respectively. The book has been designed for easy reading. Many examples provided and the entire discussion is meant to enhance independent study by students. The book is recommended as a text for first year students in Algebra and Trigonometry. | |
