dc.descriptionThis book is sectioned into three parts which are arranged in a progressive yet, interrelated manner. Part 1 focuses on My Design Story which is the foundation. I will go down through my family tree and show you how my genetics influenced my preferences. From there onwards, you will get a good glimpse of my artistic side. While many people are born artists, staying and maximising their potentials is where the challenge lies, and not many get to use their talents. Part 1 therefore chronicles my growth in the arts, how I ventured into graphic design, how mentors and role models came into play, and situations that almost made me quit as a graphic designer in the past. But that was the past, I am still in the craft and that is why you are reading this book currently. At the end of each chapter in Part 1 are Reflections for you to carry out. The second part of this book spells out Paths to a High-Income Design Career, with each chapter having three sets of Action Points for you to consider. This part of the book highlights the need for knowledge and how you can get it, to become an exceptional graphic designer. After that, you will learn about the required soft skills you need to enable you thrive in this career path. The much-debated topic of being either a specialist or generalist will be dealt with in part 2, where I will be sharing on How to Deploy Yourself. Beyond that, emphasis will be placed on how to get and maintain clients as a graphic designer or design agency. And finally, I will unravel the truths about money. Because money is important in life and business, you need to learn how to make it, manage it, and multiply it legitimately. The climax of this book is part 3 which details how you can use your graphic design skill to impact society. Much has been said about becoming a highly paid graphic designer in the both business and corporate environment, but so little is heard and known about making an impact with this skill and profession. Therefore, in this section, you will gain direction on becoming impact-conscious, undertaking corporate social responsibility, and unleashing thought leadership for the betterment of society as a graphic designer. All these, alongside Action Points for implementation in each chapter, are in part 3 of the book.
