The All Nigeria Judges' Conference is a statutory biennial conference of judges of the superior courts, intended by the National Judicial Institute Act, 1991, to serve as a forum for the judges to come together to discuss common problems for the betterment of the performance of the Judiciary as the Third Arm of Government. The theme of the 2005 All Nigeria Judges' Conference is “Sustenance of Good Governance: The Role of the Judiciary”. The papers delivered during the conference were carefully chosen to reflect the theme, covering such topical and germane issues as Judging the Judges: Judicial Ethics and Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers; Constraints in the Administration of Justice: The Nigerian Experience; Evaluation of Judges Performance: The Role of the National Judicial Council; Towards a Better Administration of Justice: Issues and Challenges; The Need for Procedural Reform to facilitate Access to Justice and Speedy Trial of Cases; and Ihe Role and Development of Sharia and Customary Law in the Nigerian Legal Systen
