Abstract
• Alphabetical list of all villages and towns with district, division and province and total population.
Description
The Village Directory contains the Districts, Divisions, Emirates, Provinces and Populations of all villages in the Northern Provinces, as recorded at the Census of the 23rd April, 1931. It contains 8,800 village names, and in conjunction with the Survey Department. Gazetteer, should enable, if not always the exact, at least the approximate position of every village to be identified. On the nucleus thus provided it will be comparatively easy to embody in future editions of the Directory indications of the existence of metalled roads to, or Rest Houses, Post and Telegraph Offices, and the like, at particular villages. The Southern Provinces Directory, containing roughly, 12,800 village names, is, after completion more than two years ago, still only in type-script. The Directories are the work of the Census Officers, Mr. N. J. Brooke and Mr. H. B. Cox, for the Northern Provinces and Southern Provinces, respectively.
