Description
This report covers the period 1st April, 1956 to 31st December, 1957. In many cases, however, Statistical Returns cover only the Government financial year ending 31st March, 1957. It had not been a spectacular period for Co-operation. There was a change of Registrar but the Senior Staff Establishment remained full throughout the
period. The Junior Staff on the other hand was increased by nine Inspectors but beeause of the lengthy training that is necessary, the Inspectors were not during the period. In the face of this stafing difficulty, the Movement could expand but little. There were 153 new registrations, but sixteen societies' registration was cancelled (excluding eighteen cancellations under the old Ordinance) and another sixty-five societies although retaining registration at 1st January, 1958 were already being wound up so that the effective increase in the number of societies was only sixty-eight.
