Description
This publication entitled Eminent Nigerians of the twentieth century is a focus on the lives and times of departed eminent persons of twentieth century Nigeria. It is produced for the same reason for which biographical works are usually written, namely, to inform, inspire and guide present and future generations by focusing on the lives and times of the past heroes and heroines; their roles, the noble causes and concerns they served, the difficulties and challenges they faced, their achievements, failures, courage, diligence, uprightness, honesty of purpose and the overall impact of their lives on their generation and posterity. In the course of serving the above purposes, this publication sheds considerable light on the various episodes in the historical course of events in twentieth century Nigeria, from the early days of the anti-colonial struggle to the granting of independence through dialogue and constructive engagement with the British colonial authorities; which was followed thereafter by a chain of crisis in. the new nation, the civil war, three decades of military dictatorship that increasingly came under strong opposition and popular resistance, particularly during the last decade of the century.
