Description
This official report serves as the final administrative and financial review of the Nigeria Central Marketing Board, detailing its executive operations from January 1, 1958, through its formal dissolution on September 30, 1958. Established to oversee the overseas sale, shipment, and quality standards of major agricultural export commodities including cocoa, groundnuts, palm oil, palm kernels, cotton, benniseed, and soya beans the Board functioned as the central coordinating export agency for Nigeria's Regional Marketing Boards. The document comprehensively records market trends, global commodity price fluctuations, port evacuation logistics, bulk storage arrangements, and detailed trading accounts across all produce divisions during this nine-month operational timeframe. Furthermore, the report highlights significant constitutional and legal transitions following recommendations made at the Constitutional Conference in Lagos. Under the Export of Nigerian Produce Ordinance of 1958, the Nigeria Central Marketing Board was abolished, transferring its operational responsibilities for export sales and shipping to the newly formed, indigenous-owned Nigerian Produce Marketing Company Limited. Concurrently, statutory authority for prescribing commodity quality grades was reassigned to the Federal Minister of Commerce and Industry. Containing complete balance sheets, profit and loss statements, produce trading summaries, and full legal texts of constitutional recommendations and repeal legislation, this report represents a critical historical document tracking the evolution, regionalization, and structural modernization of Nigeria's agricultural export trade infrastructure during the pre-independence era.
