Description
Know Nigeria. series published by the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, provides a comprehensive exploration of Nigeria's rich cultural mosaic and unity in diversity. Spanning over six ecological zones and comprising more than two hundred languages and dialects, Nigeria’s population is united by a shared history, culture, and national aspiration following the 1914 amalgamation. The text examines key ethnic groups across the country—including the Urhobo, Itsekiri, Izon, Isoko, Edo, Igbo, Ibibio, Efik, Yoruba, Hausa, Jukun, Kanuri, Fulani, Tiv, Berom, Nupe, and Igala. For each group, the book details traditional accounts of origin, migration waves, geographical settlements, and socio-political organizations, such as traditional kingships, age-grade systems, and family structures. Furthermore, it highlights primary economic activities like farming, fishing, and craftsmanship, alongside cultural expressions including traditional attire, festivals, music, and dance.
