Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC)

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is the federal agency responsible for implementing the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme in Nigeria, established by the Compulsory, Free Universal Basic Education Act 2004. UBEC provides matching grants to state governments for the development of basic education infrastructure, trains teachers, procures instructional materials, and supports the enrollment and retention of all Nigerian children in the nine-year compulsory basic education programme. It works with State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) across all states.
