Nigerian Navy

The Nigerian Navy is the maritime arm of the Nigerian Armed Forces, responsible for the defence of Nigeria's territorial waters, the protection of maritime trade routes, and the combating of sea piracy, illegal oil bunkering, and trafficking in the Gulf of Guinea. The Nigerian Navy was established in 1956 and is headed by the Chief of Naval Staff. It operates naval bases and forward operating bases along Nigeria's 853-kilometre coastline and in the Niger Delta region, and participates in regional maritime security frameworks.
