This book, in the Africa Leadership Forum biographical series, has several objectives in view. It provides the first full-scale biography of Nigeria’s foremost woman leader from the closing decades of the colonial era in Nigeria to the First Republic. So far, several works and commentaries have appeared in magazines, newspapers and other media. Some of them had portrayed Margaret Ekpo in one form or the other. Others even painted a wrong picture of her heroic activities, particularly by identifying her with the 1929 women’s war in Nigeria. This book attempts, in a quiet but forceful manner, to correct most of the erroneous impressions about her and to apportion to her only the credit due to her.
