dc.descriptionLifelong learning is relatively new in the field of study. It is being supported and advocated for by many institutions such as government, religion, society, and family because of its importance to update every citizen in order to achieve socio-economic development, and as a tool for promoting a knowledge-based society. This paper thus examines the definitions of lifelong learning, reasons for lifelong learning, the groups of people involved, and the roles the academic libraries play to enhance the effectiveness of the different programmes in support of lifelong learning.
