dc.descriptionThe study examined the views of one hundred and twenty (120) social studies students about the need for environmental education for sustainable development in Nigeria. The study is descriptive in nature. The subjects were purposively selected, while the instrument used for data collection was a likert-type questionnaire which contained ten structured items, validated by experts and its reliability yielded 0.65. Analysis of data was done with the aid of frequency count and mean. Findings from the study indicated that environmental education teaches students to be weary of the environment and its management and that environmental sustainability could be fostered through knowledge, skills and values acquisition in environmental education. Based on these findings, it is suggested that attitudinal change on the part of Nigerians (students inclusive) is highly needed to sustain the environment, while environmental education should be taught at all levels of education.
