dc.descriptionThe Leather Research Institute of Nigeria (LERIN) was established in the year 1976. Originally the Institute was started as a Project of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation in 1964 under the auspices of Northern Regional Government of Nigeria. During the years between 1972 and 1976, the institute functioned as a Division of the Federal Livestock Department. The Federal Government, as part of its National Science Policy, created the Ministry of Science and Technology in 1980 and the institute, along with other research institutes, came under its supervision as a semi-autonomous body.
